Stained Glass Goose In Bullrushes

Goose Stained Glass Pattern #2013

So often it is the glass choices  that end up dictating if any little changes need to be made to the patterns.

I used Spectrum Glasses for this stained glass window.

Irridescent water glass for the goose, Olive and Blue streaky water glasses and and streaky semi-translucent purple glass for the sky.

Stained Glass Window

The colors of the Chakras.   This is my interpretation in my stained glass window.

There are Seven Chakras and each chakra  has its own color.
You can use any glass you like and take creative license when making a stained piece such as this.
You will find many interpretations in  illustrations on the internet.
I basically followed the written suggestions but allowed myself the liberty to cross over the colors into each corresponding Chakra on my stained glass pattern

Starting from the top the colors are Violet,Indigo,Blue,Green,Yellow,Orange and Red.

Stained Glass – For Personal Gain!

Okay, so here is my story. I started out as a stained glass artist and I evolved into a stained glass pattern artist.
“It drove me crazy as a stained glass artist that I would buy a great pattern book and in so many cases you could not build the stained glass piece and use it for financial gain”

I respect copyright  and artists and the limits put onto patterns, but it didn’t take me long to realize that I had to draw my own stained glass patterns so I could sell my stained glass windows in good conscience.

I think this was the last window I ever drew ‘freehand”.  I used graphed paper and many many hours to finalize this piece.  Now that I use the Glasseye2000 software, I can set up my grid, measurements and even though it will still take time, I know that the left and the right sides of the pattern will be exact clones of each other.

I have built many stained glass pieces for myself and family and friends long before I started to sell my work.
I have a huge stack of  pattern books I purchased from various artists (thank you)  and have built  frogs and dragons fairies, birds  and flowers and with each pattern I used I learned something new.

So I say to you: Why make your purchase from plentyofpatterns?

  • They are designed by a stained glass artist that understands how to cut glass.
  • You can make your stained glass pieces from them
and you can sell your stained glass images For Personal Gain!

I welcome it and I hope that whether you are  making the stained glass for yourself,  friends or family that

  • you gain personal satisfaction working  from my stained glass patterns.
  • you gain financial  satisfaction  selling your stained glass work from my stained glass patterns.

Please do not  distribute my stained glass patterns either electronically or in printed form as this is my livelihood.   Lets be in a symbiotic relationship where we all benefit!

Enjoy my Easy to Navigate Stained Glass Webite!

I like to go online and I enjoy looking at the work of other stained glass artists and pattern designers.
Its interesting to see the many ways that stained glass artists do their craft.

Its also interesting to see how other artists have put their websites together.

I trust you will find my site is easy to navigate.
Some sites I have viewed are so full of information and have so much going on in them that they are rather confusing to make your way through.
My intention is to make  plentyofpatterns a non-frustrating and enjoyable experience for you.
If you have any feedback, please leave me a comment.

This is a  stained glass lantern that I made as a wedding gift for some very special people.
The stained glass lantern on the left says “Double Happiness” and that is a traditional Chinese wedding wish.
The stained glass lantern on the right says “Love” and that is a universal wedding wish!

I designed both of these Chinese symbols stained glass patterns for this project.

Stained Glass

Stained Glass surrounds me in my own home.   All my windows have their own theme.  I happen to be one of those people that loves to use color in my surroundings.

I don’t much think about the monetary value of stained glass windows and doors, but have read in several articles that installing stained glass in your home actually increases the value of your home.
I personally am more about the spiritual value of stained glass.  The art of stained glass has been here for centuries because it is captivating.
When the sun shines through this window there is movement in the glass I have chosen.

Streaky Spectrum waterglass is a favorite of mine to work with.

These stained glass patterns are  offered in my Stained Glass Pattern Book Number Three.

Stained Glass Mountain Biker

This stained glass mountain biker was designed and built by special request for a friend that wanted to give an extra special birthday gift to her mountain biker husband. Drawing the pattern turned out to be quite a challenge!  I did many versions  of the bike angle.  She wanted the biker to look as much like her husband as possible. When she  brought me a photo of him and we got the physic to be somewhat similar.  We tried to personalize it even more by choosing a similar colored helmet and bike shirt and shorts!

I was really happy with the glasses we used as I think as I think the rocks and path and trees all have a nice feel to them and look quite realistic.

Both Spectrum and Wissmach glasses are used in this stained glass window.

Because the pieces are so small in this window I have used the stencil copper foil stained glass technique for the face, helmet, and hands.  I talk in more detail about this in my tips and techniques section.

This piece would not be a beginners project as there are many difficult cuts in this stained glass pattern.

I always appreciate the opportunity to design and build stained glass pieces for my local clients.

You can watch a video of the building of this stained glass window in my Video section.

Stained Glass Quails – These Delightful Birds Are An Okanagan Favorite!

I live in the Okanagan of British Columbia and one of the most popular requests I get locally is for “Quail Stained Glass” pieces.

These delightful little birds run around in kamikaze mode.   The quail  often travel  in flocks
and these wonderful little birds seem to bullet themselves both in and out of the way of  oncoming traffic!

One can not look on with a smile at the Quail families as their little legs windmill them hurriedly along.

I have incorporated a couple of different stained glass techniques in these stained glass windows.

The detailing on the stained glass quails on the left are achieved with the special copper foil stenciling method.

I used and ‘overlay’ method of the grass in two of these stained glass windows which added some extra dimensions to the pieces.

The wavy insides to the balsam flowers was done with a special wave copper foil that can be purchased along with your regular rolls of copper foil.

I have a few stained glass patterns available in my bookstore.

Stained Glass Apples – Yummy looking stained glass windows!

As stained glass artist we get to meet some pretty fantastic people.   For a couple of years I offered my stained glass services far and wide via the internet and was called upon to create a set of windows for a wonderful B&B called “Appledale”.

This set of  stained glass apple windows was for the entry.

May I suggest to always photograph your work.    It can take many attempts to get great photos that show off the glass.
You often have to photograph the pieces at different times of the day, with different lighting and angles, but this is a record of your work and  its the only way you’ll remember and enjoy the stained glass pieces you have done.

You will notice in the photos of the stained glass long windows in the entryway that they are built in sections.  Each panel was no more than 36″ in length.  I did this so that they would be more manageable to send and once installed the ‘split’ was just part of the design.

Now that I have shifted more into designing the patterns, if there is something you would like to have designed, email me and I can do the design portion of your project and perhaps you can find a local stained glass artist to to the work for you if you are not a stained glass artist yourself.
